Kis is a font from Bitstream library. A faithful recreation of one of the great seventeenth century Dutch typefaces cut by the Protestant Transylvanian Nicolas Kis. The matrices survive at Stempel; their value was recognized by Chauncey Griffith at Mergenthaler Linotype, who used Kis' 14 point to undertake the revival for composing machines while following a Voskens italic better suited to the Linotype than the Kis italics. George Ostrochulski adapted the face for photocomposition at Mergenthaler, returning to the original italics.
