Organizing committee announces the results of the contest. From the 234 entries the Jury selected 23 works. Additional 6 works were awarded by ParaType.
ParaType announces a competition of Cyrillic typefaces to mark the 300th anniversary of Peter the Great’s reform of the Russian alphabet and putting into practice the civil type.
New release – Guenter.
Guenter type got its name after Guenter Gnauck — the calligrapher from Eastern Germany whose works brought an inspiration and initial incitement for the design. But in contradiction to the calligraphic nature of the inspiration source Guenter has a specific construction that is built solely with straight stems. Like KvadratZ family Guenter belongs to so called «in-one-touch» series.
New release – Dew. Dew is a script font with blobs on the stems that according to author’s imagination resemble dew drops on the caules. It gives an impression of fragrance and freshness and thus can be used for informal headings and short advertizing texts for perfumes and cosmetics.
New release – Aldine 401. Aldine 401 is a Bitstream version of Bembo type family. It was designed on the base of artwork of Francesco Griffo for Aldus Manutius. The first time the font appeared in «De Aetna» in 1495 — the book by Pietro Bembo about his journey to Mount Etna.
New release – Titla.
Combination of modern serifs with flexing stems (see n, p,…) brings to the font fresh, informal and noticeable appearance. The character set includes alternative variations and specific «vertical ligatures» for paired letters that are built with the help of diacritical forms of letters placed above basic ones.
New release – Opticum.
Font family Opticum is not just a set of fonts, it’s a maze construction kit that hides letters inside. Each inscription is a little brain-twister with variable difficulty, where the level is defined by the style. The third one is the most difficult.
New release – Agafia.
Agafia handwriting script is based on the hand of Agafia Karpovna Lykova — the last member of the Old Believer family lived like an hermit in the Khakass taiga. It’s built in OpenType format with a contextual substitution of letterforms and specific ligatures.
New release – Quiet Time.
It’s an attempt to reflect the space of a dream — virtual reality where objects don’t have solid shapes, but present just hardly noticed disappearing contours. This idea determines the design of letters that resemble illustrations rather then alphabetical symbols.
New release - ITC Avant Garde Gothic.
The type was designed in 1970 for the International Typeface Corporation by Herbert Lubalin and Thomas Carnase. Cyrillic version was developed at ParaType (ParaGraph) in 1993 by Vladimir Yefimov. Alternates and ligatures were designed and added in 2008 by Vladimir Yefimov and Olga Umpeleva.
New release - Bell Gothic.
The Bitstream version of Bell Gothic designed by Chauncey H. Griffith in 1938 for use in the telephone directories of the Bell Telephone Company. It is a good Sans Serif choice for listings, catalogues and directories due to its design is very space saving.
New release - Buratino.
Buratino font got its name from a title character of Russian fairy tale — a clone of Pinocchio. The font contains just upper case characters. Can be used in advertizing and display typography. Designer — Gennady Fridman.
New release - Nazhdak.
Nazhdak is a handwriting sans serif of three styles sketched with a felted pen and digitized afterwards. Designed in 2001 under the impression of Erik van Blockland's FF Kosmik typeface. The main destinations are small informal text compositions and display typography.
